Part time Healthcare Assistant – we are looking for an enthusiastic, committed health care assistant to join our existing clinical team.
The post is part time, ideally between 2-3 days per week – this is negotiable.
Applicants must be proficient in providing treatment room services. Applicants must have experience in phlebotomy, dressings, NHS & new patient health checks, ECGs, and vaccinations, amongst other duties. Working with the practice nurses the health care assistant will be responsible for ensuring consultation rooms are clean, well-stocked, and prepared for clinics, stock control and ordering of medical supplies
Applicants should have good communication skills, a kind and caring disposition and be able to follow instructions and procedures.
Salary: negotiable dependent on experience, with an option to join the NHS Pension Scheme.

PRACTICE NURSE JOB DESCRIPTION
- RESPONSIBLE TO: THE PRACTICE MANAGER (Administratively)

- JOB SUMMARY:
- Working under direct supervision of the Doctors and Practice Nurses and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
- Duties and responsibilities
- Venepuncture to include INR testing
- Carry out new patient, over 75 and well person screening & NHS health checks
- Carry out vaccinations.
- Wound Care (as per nurse direction)
- Carry out routine BP checks, Urinalysis and ECG’s
- Provide smoking cessation information leaflets and complete QOF coding.
- Apply infection control measures
- Administration

- Take blood from patients as directed by Doctors.
- Ensure procedures comply with infection control policy.
- Ensure all request forms and specimens are labelled correctly.
- Ensure specimens are packaged ready for delivery to laboratory.

- Take blood from patient via finger prick or venous sample.
- Establish INR value using Coagucheck system.
- Enter results on template in patient’s medical record and in yellow book.
- Refer any problems to the duty doctor.
- Perform regular quality control checks on equipment.
- Ensure there are adequate supplies of test strips and reagents.
- Carry out new patient, over 75 and well person screening & NHS health checks
- Carry out screening as per computer templates, noting family history and other possible risk factors.
- Provide smoking cessation information leaflets and complete QOF coding.

- Carry out vaccination against Influenza, Covid, Pneumonia & Shinlges- where training has been undertaken for the vaccination to be administered
- Administer vaccinations to patients over 17 years of age (excluding pregnant women).
- Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs.
- Working according to protocols and Patient Specific Directions.

- Perform wound care using aseptic technique
- Undertake uncomplicated dressings.
- Suture and clip removal
- Carry out routine BP checks, Urinalysis and ECG’s
- Monitor BP and refer if results are outside the guidelines.
- Carry out routine urinalysis and refer if any abnormalities detected.
- Carry out ECG’s as directed by Doctors and ensure results are given directly to the duty doctor.
- Provide Smoking Cessation advice
- Provide smoking cessation information leaflets and complete QOF coding.
- Apply infection control measures
- Take universal hygiene precautions according to local and national guidelines. Ensure the collection and handling of laboratory specimens meets guidelines.
- Ensure the segregation and disposal of waste materials meets guidelines.
- Be aware of the reporting and treatment of sharps injuries
- Deal with blood and body fluid spillages according to guidelines.
- Administration
- Results – inform patients of the procedure for obtaining results.
- Consent – seek and record consent where appropriate – see practice consent to treatment policy
- Monitor stocks of supplies, e g needles & bottles and liaise with nurses and stock ordering administrator when reordering is required.
- Assist the nurses to maintain the Treatment Room – clean equipment (using products specified in practice protocols) between each use. Clean clinical areas (using products specified in practice protocols) and ensure they remain clutter free.
- Restock clinical areas and consulting rooms – Undertake periodic checks for items that may be out of date and remove and dispose of these items. Re-stock consulting rooms in line with individual GP requirements

- Appraisal – to participate in annual staff development interview, identifying your own training needs. With the designated practice nurse appraise any training you have undertaken to ensure the knowledge or experience you have gained is used effectively.
- Miscellaneous Tasks
- Chaperone – assist doctors by performing chaperoning duties.
- Minor Surgery – assist doctors with invasive procedures such as minor surgery or IUD
- Attend Practice meetings
- Health & Safety ensure awareness of practice policies and risk management.
- Safeguarding – be aware of child/adult protection issues and know who to contact if concerned.
